Create your Own Reality whilst Giving the Finger to Fear

Hello everyone! This weeks post is going to be slightly different. Although the topic adheres to one of my constant passion subjects: mentality, this is the first time I’ve asked a friend of mine to write a guest post for my blog. Who is my guest post writer today? Chiara Singh-Fisher has worked in the Higher Education sector for over eight years and is passionate about supporting the growth and development of colleagues, students, and academics. She also enjoys travelling, […]

Making Your Mother’s Day

Our Mother’s are special; not only do they do a-lot for us, but we don’t usually get to say thank you in a meaningful way. Showing our appreciation of them can be taking them out for a meal, or to see their favourite show at the theatre. It can also be simply sending a bunch of flowers to say you’re thinking of them. How do you like to treat your Mum? (I say Mum where I’m from). If you’re looking […]

Am I too emotional?

I’m not meaning to actually ask you that. Although if you replied then I’d be intrigued into your answer. My interest is in people referring to others as ‘too emotional’. What does that even mean? As an individual I’m incredibly caring, compassionate and put others before myself. A side affect of that is I’m often referred to by many different people as too emotional. And here’s why I struggle with that label, if I may. The idea that you can […]

Mindfulness: what is it and how do I practise it?

The current buzzword: Mindfulness. We’re all talking about it, or the people next to us have mentioned it. It’s being marketed as the ‘way to reduce anxiety and stress’, and if you ask me, it’s fantastic. But what is it and how on earth can I actually be mindful? Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique. I.e it’s […]

Anxiety Update: Therapy and Me

Hey guys! Those of you who have been following my blog for the past 6 months have probably seen my blog posts on Anxiety and my experience of Anxiety. I have previously mentioned that it wasn’t so bad that I felt I needed professional help, but that changed after life gave me some lemons and those lemons pushed me off balance. The reason I want to talk to you about therapy and counselling is because I feel like it’s still […]

World Cancer Day – 4th February 2018

World Cancer Day is an international day marked on February 4th to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. Most of us are aware of cancer. We’ve seen it in our own family, our friends family, or family of Susan’s down the road. We have all, in some capacity, heard about it. Often, those stories we hear are incredibly upsetting and scary, but I wanted to come here and tell you about the hope, too. […]

Aannmarie at Home – How I Plan My Fortnightly Shop

Hello all, As an avid reader of food blogs and food hauls on youtube myself, the one video I love to watch is what people buy for their weekly, or fortnightly shops. I find it fascinating, and inspiring from the comfort of my sofa; so I thought I should make what I like to watch/read. Welcome to my fortnightly shop. I shop for 2 weeks at a time because of a few reasons. It’s obviously less to do every weekend […]

3 ways to reduce Anxiety

…If you’ve been reading my posts for a short while then you’ll probably know I experience anxiety and I’m very much interested in every-one talking about their anxiety more. Why? Because discourse encourages people to challenge one anothers ideas on anxiety and the ‘type of person’ that may experience it. We’re currently still fearful of talking too much about stress and or anxiety; some of us don’t understand it and some of us just can’t open up about it, we’re […]

Monday Blues – How To Get Rid Of Them

Ummm, I’m not a magician, guys 😛 I write blog posts, that’s all, I don’t have the secret… There’s no key to ‘feeling good’ about going back to work, not even if you’re doing the job you’ve always wanted. Don’t lie to us, you people are also gutted that the break is over. We all are. We’re fuming. All we want is another week. Juuust another day would be wonderful. It’s not going to happen though. You’ve probably clicked on […]

How I Make Homemade Minestrone Soup

Minestrone soup is amazing for work or for snacking on at home. It’s made with fresh ingredients and takes around 20 minutes to make, then 20 minutes to cook. Once made and cooled, you can keep it in the fridge for up to 4 days if in a tightly sealed container. Friday’s are for fish and chips anyway, right?! 😉 This is made entirely on the hob (which puts me off every-time because I just want to throw everything into […]

Current Hair Favourites

Hi guys This January I am doing ‘current’ favourites. You may have seen I’ve already done one on my current face favourites, now my hair favourites. This isn’t an exhaustive list of things I like to use for my hair but it is exactly what is working for me right now. To give you some hair background, my hair is quite dry. It is also quite light but there’s a lot of it. It can get flat because it’s not […]

Current Skin Favourites

Hi guys! I’m a skin care lover, and have really dry and dehydrated skin, so when I find a product I like that makes my makeup go on a little easier, I’m going to write about it; it’s only fair. My top favourite at the moment is F&G Hydra-Activ Nutrient Day Cream and I’ll tell you why below (click the titles to see the product online). All of these products are semi affordable, i.e under £20 and worth purchasing if […]

Fashion is something I’ve gotten more and more interested in as I’ve gotten older. Probably because with age has come me accepting and liking my body more, so naturally I’ve focused on how to dress it well. Going into 2018 I have some clear ideas on what I do like and what I don’t like when it comes to how I dress. Lessons learnt for 2018

Hello everyone. 2017 was not a great year for me in many ways, but it also brought some great times too. I’ve learnt a lot about who I am and what life can throw at you in 2018 and thought I’d share some thoughts with you below: Money & things don’t matter — they’re nice, but they don’t really matter I’ve never been a materialistic person, ever. Growing up we didn’t have much and so I’ve never been in an […]

How I feel About This Time of Year

It’s December, it’s nearly Christmas, and we’re seeing festivities everywhere. You’re probably expecting me to say that I don’t like it. And if I’m entirely honest I don’t love the run up to Christmas. I find it stressful. Picking gifts, trying to get everyone something special, organising where you’re going to be, what you’re going to be doing. It’s stressful. However, I really do love the 2/3 days when I’ve finished work and it’s time to relax & enjoy the time. […]

When Life Gives You Lemons

Hi guys, I’ve been away from blogging now for about a month, as life gave me a few lemons to deal with. Now I’ve got time to talk to you about how I dealt with those lemons and to give you some ways of dealing with yours. I would like to note I like lemons A LOT and this feels like a harsh attack on lemons. They give us lemonade, for goodness sake! ANYWAYYYYY… There’s this unrealistic perception within society […]

Stress

Hi guys! It’s been a while & there’ll be a post about why soon, but today I wanted to share some thoughts on stress. This is for the people who feel stressed right now, or are sensitive to stress and can feel overwhelmed by it. Stress is always referred to negatively. I can’t think of a time somebody has said to me “I feel so stressed, this is great!”. It’s seen as the restrictor, the limiter and the mental health […]

Re-styling my boyfriend via ASOS

Hey guyssss! This is a collaboration with Closet Monkey, who has a youtube channel and also happens to be my lovely boyfriend. This is the post I have been waiting to do, I just had to persuade him to let me. He isn’t into fashion, and looking fashionable definitely isn’t at the top of his priorities. I wouldn’t really say it was near the top of mine, but I like to dip in and out. He’s very kindly let me […]

Identity

I have separated a few moments and disguised those I don’t feel reflect the best parts of me. I have sat on the bottom of a pit and let the light flood around me not moving to dance with it. I have kept secret words in my mouth, and pushed them to the back. I have laughed along with those who do not see any of this any of me. I have forgiven the actions when they seem so sad […]

How can I support a family member/friend who has become ill?

If you feel you need to talk to some-one, please scroll below where there’ll be links to mental health services. “I would love to hear your thoughts on how to support a friend or family member who is ill or disabled. My Favourite Cleansers

Taking my make-up off after a long day has to be one of the best things to do. I’ve used some great cleansers recently. However, I remember being 16 and thinking a make-up wipe was a good idea, and pulling the skin under my eyes didn’t matter. I didn’t really think that much about my skin until I was in my early 20s and I could see the wrinkles starting to appear. Potentially too late but I’m trying now! My […]

How To Save Money – My Top Tips

I often get asked how I save, or saved as buying a home required saving for years. So I thought I’d share tips which I’d give to those who want to manage their money better. Saving money is something I think we’d all like to be able to do, but just doesn’t happen as often as we’d like. We start to live to our means, rather than attempting to make our finances lean & release more disposable cash that can be […]

I like a lot of styles of coats, but don’t tend to go beyond the […]

Anxiety and me

Anxiety. We’re hearing the word more and more in the media and online, but what is it? How does it feel? Do I have it? Anxiety is defined as “a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about something with an uncertain outcome” I’m not entirely sure defining a feeling is possible. Nor am I sure we should try to. I can’t tell you how every-one else experiences anxiety, but I can go someway to explaining my experience of it, which […]

5 tips to get the most out of your job

Our experiences within our working environment create our feelings concerning it. If you’ve had a wonderful experience and connected with your colleagues on a personal level as well as professionally, it can be a really great place to be. On the other hand, if you’ve had a terrible experience, you may feel as though you are already detached and wishing for a brighter experience but the people may have been a saving grace. The key to manoeuvring into a new […]

The perfect Autumn boots: Head Over Heels by Dune Pilar Ankle Boots

Every year, September comes around and I find myself looking for the perfect everyday boot. Every single year. And sometimes I find cute boots for evenings out, or for special occasions, but I really struggle to find a nice pair, that are reasonably priced, and will last the season. I would say I’m not very daring with my boot style. I like black, and I like a certain cut, where it elongates your legs, rather than creating a stumped look. […]

5 ways to boost self-esteem

Self-confidence looks amazing, right? Why can it be so hard to achieve? We really need to question how we feel about ourselves and why. To feel as though somebody doesn’t like or agree with what we’re doing can be debilitating if you have low-self esteem or are feeling vulnerable. We are built by our approval network, sitting around us in the form of our parents, and other close attachments. We’re used to seeking approval. That’s how we understand the world […]

Let’s make Lentil Ragu!

We all have that thing where we want to eat healthily but we don’t want to be starving or feel hungry, so we choose pizza over freshly cooked food. I am the WORST at this, my favourite food is pizza so I’m trying to cook fresh wherever I can. Food can be about enjoyment and nourishment. I just had to write a post about making Madeleine Shaw’s Lentil Ragu! It’s soooo easy, using things from the cupboard and fridge that […]

MonthOne: Let’s talk about friendship

Welcome to my second post for Month One! This week: Let’s talk Friendship. Friendships are those relationships whereby we pick another, albeit random, human and say to ourselves ‘Yes, I want this person in my life’. We then take steps to invite them into our lives. I’ve had my coffee now 🙂 A lot like my relationships, I always struggled trusting friends. That can be quite the issue when friendships, well good friendships at least, are based on some kind of […]

#MonthOne: Let’s talk about relationships

Welcome to my new monthly series! Every month I’ll be discussing a different topic, by sharing a post every Friday. This month is all about #relationships, whether that’s romantic relationships, friendships or family relationships. We enter into more relationships than we realise, and each relationship requires something from us, and provides things to us. The first request I’ve had is to discuss insecurity in romantic relationships and how to cope with those feelings. We all have insecurities. Every single person […]

Transitioning my style into Autumn with Brave Soul via ASOS

Fashion has always been to me about self-expression. Whether that’s through the colours, patterns or the cuts of the clothing. I’m not the kind of girl who likes to wear heels, or be covered in makeup. I’m a pretty chilled person, and if it were acceptable I would be in jeans and t-shirts at all times. My favourite brand to get this look is Brave Soul on ASOS, I’ll go into more detail about the pieces below. I try and incorporate […]

What I have learnt in my 20’s

Being selfish is not a bad thing For much of your life you may feel that you’ve always tried to people please, and alike me, that the happiness of others is far more important than your own happiness. Whilst this is a really lovely way to be and a part of my personality that I am proud of, I had let it get to the point whereby my identity was based on others happiness, and their ideas of me. During […]

Food, glorious food!

Let’s make meal times exciting together   Getting home from work, or from a long day and all you want to do is lay on the sofa, order a takeaway and relax. I’m a massive fan of the rubbish foods, the chipshop, the takeaway, the crisps… but what I’ve tried to take control of […]

Life. Is it happening to you or for you?

For years, I’ve experienced mild anxiety; general and social. It was always a back-burner, in that it never really affected me too much in my daily life. Things changed around a year ago and I delve more into that in one of my previous posts: Anixetyandme.  When my mental health took a real dip, I couldn’t tell my perspective had changed. I couldn’t really see that I was feeling so bad, I just thought I was having a hormonal few […]
